Hammer may not only be too legit to quit, he's got too many home-renovation bills to quit. As the rapper's Fremont, Calif., dream home (above) gets bigger, so does the tab. The 10,000-square-foot media and sports facility he's planning to add to his 12-acre estate by the end of '93 will bring the sprawling one-story stucco home to 21,000 square feet and the total cost to $20 million.
The house, nearly ready for Hammer, his longtime girlfriend, Stephanie, and their 4-year-old daughter, Akeiba Monique, has a fog machine-fountain combo under the porte cochere. The original wing includes six beds and baths, game, exercise, and spa rooms, and an indoor pool. Plans for the new wing include a 10-car garage for Hammer's auto collection, a recording studio, a projection room, basketball and tennis courts, and a two-lane bowling alley.
Bowling alley? ''Hammer was telling me how he got his butt kicked by Evander Holyfield last time they bowled together,'' says Rob Wilkinson, one of the architects of the new wing. ''I think he wanted some time to practice.''
