Those hyping The Player as Robert Altman's ''comeback'' probably haven't seen The Caine Mutiny Court Martial, his compelling mounting of Herman Wouk's brilliant courtroom drama. This director was never away. The tape's sole flaw: a few annoying fade-outs for commercials, which bespeak this four-year-old production's TV origins. A-
