Unexplained (1992)

EW's GRADE
B+

Details Lead Performance: EMF; Genres: Electronic, Pop

EMF is the spunky Brit techno-beat aggregation that hit with the spicy single ''Unbelievable'' last year; but the rather toothless accompanying album made it seem like the single was a fluke. This EP, however, is a ferocious statement of prowess from a lethal dance band. Unexplained features four songs, each beginning at catapult speed and picking up velocity from there. ''Far From Me'' is a swirling guitar-and-drums assault, and the band's siren-and sample-laden rush at Iggy Pop's ''Search and Destroy'' does just that. Steamy. B+
