Most critics dismissed this Sylvester Stallone action comedy about an L.A. cop with a meddling mother (Estelle Getty) as a made-for-TV movie that didn't know its place, but watching it on video at home reveals something less ambitious. In fact, Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot plays more like an overlong trailer that doesn't know its place. Apart from the title joke, which Stallone delivers at the picture's midpoint, both the film and Stallone's distracted performance in it are so shallow that there's nothing substantive to criticize. Forget about a $4 rental; this isn't even worth watching for free on the video-store monitor. D-
