So vivid is this disc-only release that John Ford's How Green Was My Valley impoverished Welsh mining town seems to exist in a microscope, the lens attuned to the merest flecks of coal dust in weather-beaten pores. A restored early-stereo soundtrack muffles the narration, but two alternate audio tracks let you select a clear mono mix or just the music score. A-
