When Dick fell in love with Liz, he showered her with diamonds. More recently, when Bruce fell for Demi, he gave her two dolls he found in a Paris toy store. ; And not just any dolls, but Anne Mitrani sculptures, one-of-a-kind pieces costing from $12,000 to $20,000. They're so well regarded, the Louvre owns three works by the 46-year-old Parisian artist.

Willis' gift was the beginning of Moore's menagerie, which is now the world's largest Mitrani collection. Her recent additions: Last year she bought a set of three ''sisters'' sitting on a couch for $34,000. Two months ago the Vanity Fair cover girl added four more Mitranis to her shelf. One of the purchases — for $16,000 — was a pouty little girl in a pink dress and petticoat, recently a cover girl herself on Contemporary Doll magazine.

Why are Mitranis so cher? ''What separates her from other doll artists is that she re-creates such a lifelike image,'' says Barbara Campbell, Doll's editor. ''If you look at one of her dolls, you're looking at a real person.''
