Set mostly in Kentucky, The Patron Saint of Liars is the story of an introspective but inarticulate family. Rose is a young California woman who finds she is pregnant, flees her marriage, and drives halfway across the country to St. Elizabeth's, a home for unwed mothers in Habit, Ky. There her daughter is born and she meets the man she marries. Told from the point of view of each of the three members of the family, this is a wonderful novel. Patchett writes with a simplicity of style and clarity of voice that make one eager for her next book.
