Box Office

HIT 'SINGLE'?

The most dramatic event in this week's box office sweepstakes wasn't the fact that Single White Female earned a healthy $10 million. It was that it managed to do so without dislodging Unforgiven from the No. 1 spot. Clearly, Clint Eastwood's Western is not about to fade into the sunset. Single White Female, on the other hand, received only a B- from audiences polled by CinemaScore. It will take another week to see if it has moviegoers hooked. A big surprise was the disastrous opening of Diggstown. Though the action comedy received many favorable reviews (and a CinemaScore grade of A-), it finished a dismal 12th. After this and the failure of last spring's Gladiator, the message is clear: Boxing flicks are being counted out. WEEKEND TOP TEN GROSS WEEKS IN GROSS* TO DATE RELEASE
