Ernst Haas in Black and White (Bulfinch Press, $55) Best known as a pioneer of color photography, Ernst Haas also turned out a substantial body of work in black and white. Born in Vienna in 1921, he first used his camera to document World War II and its aftermath. From there he traveled the world taking pictures that were at once lyrical and intelligent, curious and passionate. The 114 pictures assembled here will introduce people unfamiliar with Haas' work to a photographer who is easily the equal of Henri Cartier-Bresson or Alfred Eisenstaedt. A-
