ROCK & ROLL COVERS

STORIES WE'D LIKE TO READ

As you scan your local newsstand, the September issue of Architectural Digest catches your eye. Can it be? Yes, it is! That's David Bowie, outfitted in a cute little sarong, adorning the cover of the tony bible of interior design. From his Indonesian-style home on the Caribbean isle of Mustique, which also claims Princess Margaret and Mick Jagger as residents, Bowie says, ''I think Mustique is Duchampian-it will always provide an endless source of delight.'' Yeah, boogie, Dave! We love it when the mainstream press taps into rock & roll, even the oh-so-elegant world of a David Bowie, and we can only hope that more magazines will slap rockers on the cover. Here are stars (and stories) we'd love to see: *PSYCHOLOGY TODAY Axl Rose (''Exploring the Rocker's Inner Child'') *CARDIOLOGY Billy Ray Cyrus (''Cholesterol Means an Achy Breaky Heart'') *PARENTING Courtney Love and Kurt Cobain (''Uh-oh, Baby's Crying'') *GUNS & AMMO Jerry Lee Lewis (''My Greatest Hits'') *MODERN MATURITY Luther Campbell (''100 Party Jokes'') *NEW ENGLAND JOURNAL OF MEDICINE Keith Richards (''How I Get Up in the Morning'') *SEVENTEEN Wilson Phillips (''What to Do if Your Folks Go Weird on You'') *FITNESS Sir Mix-A-Lot (''Don't Work That Butt Too Much'') *SELF Barbra Streisand (''My Favorite Subject'') *PREVENTION The Cure (''Yes, But What's the Disease?'') *GQ Neil Young (''In Search of the Perfect Flannel Shirt'') *PENTHOUSE FORUM Barry White (''O-o-o-o-ooh, Baby, I Love You, Baby'').
