Impressively art-directed in the dank, industrial Blade Runner style, this utterly soulless and imitative monster movie, about a troublemaking cop on the trail of the Alien-like creature that killed his partner, wastes the rugged presence of video favorite Rutger Hauer. Only a cameo by Michael J. Pollard, as an infantile rat catcher, manages to perk up Split Second.
