King of the Slide Guitar (1992)

EW's GRADE
A-

Details Lead Performance: Elmore James; Genre: Blues

Maybe you think you've heard it all before, and in a way you have. Everybody from Eric Clapton to George Thorogood has been swiping licks, lines, and whole songs (''The Sky Is Crying,'' ''Shake Your Moneymaker,'' ''Dust My Broom'') from the late Elmore James, the most rockin' of great bluesmen. In King of the Slide Guitar, these 50 sides, created from 1959 to 1963 and spread over two discs with fine sound reproduction, give one of the great blues masters a presentation as classy as he deserves.
