Perhaps film star Rupert Everett (The Comfort of Strangers, Another Country, Dance With a Stranger) should keep his day job. Rhys Waveral child of Scottish gentry, out-of-work soap actor, sometime hooker, and hero of Everett's first novel is a charmingly campy figure. Hello Darling, Are You Working?, though, has all the airiness of a comedy of manners with none of the sting. As measured by Waveral's less-than-explosive epiphany ''while he did not even know who he himself was in this cheap story he had written, he knew that he too was lost'' the adventures of the rich and jaded can be as irrelevant as anyone else's.
