David Bailey: If We Shadows (1992)

EW's GRADE
B

Details Writer: David Bailey; Genres: Nonfiction, Photography; Publisher: Thames & Hudson

Best known as a photographer who captured the celebrity zeitgeist of the '60s, David Bailey is still at it. In David Bailey: If We Shadows, his photographs, culled from the past 10 years of his work, betray more fascination with decay than the shots from the age of Aquarius: Walter Matthau's age spots, Bill Brandt's wrinkles, celebrities posed with death's heads or juxtaposed with crumbling monuments. And in case you missed the point, youth and beauty make occasional appearances just to remind you that they do not last. B
