Best known as Jermaine to Mariah Carey's Michael on her remake of the Jacksons' ''I'll Be There,'' this fine debut, Trey Lorenz, coproduced by Carey, proves that Lorenz is more than ready to step out on his own. Though his sound is familiar, Lorenz's man-child tenor weaves fluidly around solid gospel and pop-soul, and he scores points for avoiding routine R&B poses. A-
