In 1914 Herbert Hoover, then a private citizen, began collecting documents about the war in Europe. His initial stash of leaflets, government papers, and posters grew into a major archive now housed at Stanford University's Hoover Institution. The political posters displayed here range from stirring propaganda for World War I to some wan examples from the years following World War II. Despite its poor selection from the work of the past three decades, Persuasive Images: Posters of War and Revolution from the Hoover Institution Archives is a remarkable testimony to the seductive powers of political art. A
