No-budget writer-coproducer-director-editor Paul Leder (I Dismember Mama) has constructed this poor man's Tennessee Williams tale using a bizarre, choppy shorthand that makes the movie seem unwittingly, and unflatteringly, avant-garde. Affecting a lame Spanish accent, Edward Albert plays an emasculated Central American rebel leader who hides out in a small western town; with Wings Hauser, Stella Stevens, and Viveca Lindfors also on board, the astounding cast list of Exiled in America reads like a Playbill from the Hades Dinner Theater.
