Details Lead Performance: Echo & the Bunnymen; Genre: Rock

On their first outing with new vocalist Noel Burke, the Bunnymen sound in Reverberation, hopelessly in thrall to the brand of pale pseudo-psychedelia they helped popularize during the past decade. Whereas former lead singer Ian McCulloch had a Jim Morrison-like charisma, Burke is nondescript — as are most of the tunes, except for ''Enlighten Me,'' where the band's typically dinky, monotonous sound is bolstered by sitar and Indian percussion. Otherwise, this is a turkey best left to be gobbled up by the band's relatives, close friends, and diehard fans. C-
