Mozart: Piano Concertos Nos. 21 and 27 (1991)

EW's GRADE
B

Details Lead Performances: Sir Charles Mackerras, John O'Conor and Scottish Chamber Orchestra; Genre: Classical

The Irish pianist John O'Conor is not a household name in the U.S., but he is a fine, sturdy, and sensitive musician whose playing is neither idiosyncratic nor assembly-line bland. The Beethoven sonatas display his deft passagework and handsome tone, while the Mozart Concertos reveal a performer of great tact and taste. No Horowitzian fireworks here, but in this repertory who needs them? B
