Mozart's first opera, Bastien and Bastienne — written when he was 11 — opens with a theme that Beethoven later put to good use in the Eroica Symphony. That musical coincidence notwithstanding, it's a sweet, slight, thoroughly amazing work that unmistakably heralds the genius of music's greatest talent. The performance is ideal, highlighted by Edita Gruberova's sparkling Bastienne. A
