Nora Ephron, Gary Oldman, and Bob Dylan made headlines this week

MOVIES: ''It rang bells,'' says Nora Ephron of This Is My Life, a Meg Wolitzer novel that Ephron and her sister, Delia, will turn into a movie starring Julie Kavner (Alice). ''The story is about two daughters and the effect on children of a mother's career,'' adds Ephron, who will also direct. ''Our mother worked and our parents wrote stories about us.'' The Walt Disney Co. has made a fortune with Americanized versions of French films in recent years. First came Down and Out in Beverly Hills, then Three Men and a Baby, then Three Fugitives. Now the studio is reaching across the Atlantic again for the 1987 comedy-drama Le Grand Chemin, which delves into a young boy's summer spent with his mother's best friends, who are mourning their own child's death. Disney's adaptation, retitled Paradise, begins shooting this month with the husband-and-wife duo of Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith in starring roles... They're not the only couple making movies together: Gary Oldman, the lushy Westie in State of Grace (and upcoming in Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead), will play the pickled Welsh poet Dylan Thomas in Dylan, with wife Uma Thurman (Miller's spouse in Henry & June) as Mrs. Thomas. MUSIC: If movies have sequels, why not records? Sony Music is putting the finishing touches on a boxed set of rarities from Bob Dylan, who took his stage name from the poet. The Bootleg Series Vols. 1-3 (Rare and Unreleased) 1961-1989 will follow his 1985 Biograph collection. The three-CD (or three-cassette) set consists of 58 previously unreleased tracks spanning the bard's restless career. Highlights include demos recorded in a Minnesota hotel room in 1961. Bootleg will be released on March 26, just in time to capitalize on two noteworthy Dylan events: his Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, to be presented Feb. 20, and his 50th birthday, May 24. — Casey Davidson, Mark Harris, Melina Gerosa, David Browne
