He kerchooed for Sneezy in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, but James MacDonald's most notable achievement was his 30 years as the lovably shrill voice of Mickey Mouse. MacDonald, a sound expert at Disney who began by playing drums for a 1934 cartoon, became the mouse mouthpiece one day in 1946 when Walt himself was too busy to squeak for the studio animators. Later voices included high-toned chipmunks Chip 'n' Dale. An inventor who created a thousand sound effects, MacDonald died in Glendale, Calif., earlier this month at 84.
