Unconditional Love

In his more than 20 years of recording, Glen Campbell has relied on an innate sense of song selection to see him through many albums marred by shoddy production. This time on Unconditional Love, the production here isn't so much shoddy as old-fashioned — the chorus of background vocalists on ''Once a Day,'' for example, sounds left over from the '60s. But as before, Campbell has assembled a fine collection of songs that manages to cover his wide country-pop base and work as affecting vignettes of a middle-aged man in love. The surprise is how well he's singing these days, and how much he sounds like a true and vital musician, not just a relic from the past.
