The first supergroup formed by members of mid-'80s British techno-pop bands, Electronic have come up with a self-titled debut album as irresistibly tuneful as one might expect from a duo whose members are singer Bernard Sumner (late of New Order) and guitarist Johnny Marr (late of the Smiths), working with the Pet Shop Boys as guest songwriters. Given that pool of talent, it's not surprising that songs like ''The Patience of a Saint'' and ''Getting Away With It'' combine buoyant, guitar-charged electronic melodies with taste, poignancy, and a measure of out-and-out rock & roll.
