Learning To Fly: The World Champion Chicago Bulls' Rise to Glory (1991)

MPAA Rating: Unrated

Details Movie Rated: Unrated; Genres: Documentary, Sports; With: Michael Jordan; Distributor: CBS/Fox Home Video

''People ask me, 'Can I fly? Do I like to fly?' I think as a team, we showed we like to fly.'' The words belong to basketball's ultimate aerialist, Michael Jordan, and he's talking about his team — the NBA champion Chicago Bulls. Learning to Fly, a 52-minute video scrapbook chronicles the Bull franchise history (basically disappointing) up through this year's big Bull run (completely inspirational). It lacks the beauty and soul of those brief montages the networks put together and blend with fabulous music. Here, the music is mediocre, the pace too choppy. The best moments are when the players describe the game they love. You can't help smiling when Magic Johnson gives you his play-by-play version of a seemingly spiritual Jordan slam. If only the rest of the film could sustain the same excitement. C+
