Environmentally Safe

Upcoming eco-movies -- ''Medicine Man,'' ''FernGully,'' and ''Troppo'' are some films set to hit the big screen

In The Naked Gun 2 1/2 Leslie Nielsen, as Lieut. Frank Drebin, wages war against coal, oil, and nuclear power companies and then announces: ''I want to be known as the environmental police lieutenant.'' Earlier this year, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles battled toxic dumping in their second feature, The Secret of the Ooze. These days, Hollywood movies aren't fading to black but to green. With the fight to save the earth's environment so politically correct, Hollywood has a slew of ''eco movies'' in the works:

This animated musical fantasy, based on the children's book by Diana Young, finds natives of the rain forest facing destruction. (1992)

Troppo

Isobar
Sylvester Stallone is featured in this action-adventure set in the 21st century, when the world is doomed by noxious air. (Not scheduled)

Cruise
Steven Seagal is a lean, green, enviro-fighting machine who's out to save the world. (In development)
