At Al & Forno, the restaurant that has made Providence a destination for East Coast food pilgrims, husband-and-wife owner-chefs Killeen and Germon turn out Italian-inspired fare that is at the same time rustic, stylish, innovative, and pristine. In Cucina Simpatica they share recipes for their famous grilled pizzas (10 in all) and baked pastas, their punchy condiments and original desserts. The idea of starting from scratch with good fresh food and working to ''bring out its inherent goodness'' is not a novel concept in today's climate, but Killeen and Germon apply it with an extra dash of, well, dash.
