As the headline- grabbing summer blockbusters-Terminator 2, Robin Hood, and City Slickers-continue to draw audiences, a few of the season's smaller movies are showing their legs. Doc Hollywood, with Michael J. Fox, has proved a slow- growing winner. Earning a solid $5.2 million in its third week, the rural comedy seems to be benefiting from good word of mouth-in Cinema Score exit polling (see box, opposite page), moviegoers overall rated the film B+. Similarly, The Doctor, which expands its run to 800 screens, is continuing to perform strongly after receiving an A- from surveyed audiences. Meanwhile, Boyz N the Hood, with its $44.2 million, is now a stone's throw from the $47 million gross of New Jack City. In its first week, though, Mystery Date strikes out.
