This week's top 10 may look familiar, but it doesn't tell the whole story: TV's hottest show was the weekend-long miniseries starring Clarence Thom-as and Anita Hill. Although absent from the ratings top 10 because viewers could choose among so many outlets, the Senate Judiciary Committee hearings were the week's most-watched programming. On Friday, Oct. 11, combined hearings coverage on NBC, ABC, CNN, PBS, and local stations drew far more viewers than Roseanne, the week's No. 1 series. The hearings also bumped two potential top 10 shows from the list. None of CBS' baseball play-off games made the cut; the Toronto-Minnesota game that CBS broadcast opposite Friday's hearings ranked 57th, one of the worst performances ever for a play-off game in prime time. And as the hearings crested on Sunday, Oct. 13, part one of NBC's splashy miniseries A Woman Named Jackie was relegated to 23rd place. VIEWERS* TOP TEN LAST WEEK
