Like Jim Brown — and John Wayne — Brian Bosworth is a former football player making the switch to action-movie star. In Stone Cold, his first film, he plays a maverick cop who goes undercover to bust an outlaw biker gang. That gives him lots of excuses to bare his chest and throw his weight around, which he does much more convincingly than Joe Namath did in his biker saga, 1970's unintentionally funny C.C. and Company. As an old linebacker, Boz just naturally takes to Stone Cold's over-the-top action sequences. Released theatrically last spring, this movie proved too gritty and grungy to be a mainstream hit. Still, action-video buffs will probably find that its crude but potent formula punches all the right buttons. B
