Video Review

Dollman (1991)

EW's GRADE
C+

Details Movie Rated: R; Genres: Action/Adventure, Mystery and Thriller, Sci-fi and Fantasy; With: Tim Thomerson; Distributors: Full Moon Entertainment and Paramount Home Video

Despite the title, Dollman isn't a superhero-adventure flick; it's a low-budget cross between a Dirty Harry movie and TV's goofy old Land of the Giants. Tim Thomerson (a former stand-up comic who used to do a wicked imitation of Charles Bronson ordering at McDonald's) stars as a 13-inch-tall alien cop who crash-lands in the middle of a South Bronx gang war and blows away assorted scum with his tiny sci-fi version of Harry's .44 Magnum. Thomerson has played similar (though full-size) characters in several recent B action flicks, and by now he has his faux ''Make my day'' act down cold. Unfortunately, while there's enough gross shoot-out stuff to mollify genre fans, the picture's miniature effects are mostly laughable. (And, no, there isn't a sex scene.)
