WRITE TO KILL Scott Valentine, Joan Severance (1990, Columbia TriStar, $79.95, R) Family Ties alum Scott Valentine plays a mystery writer who hooks up with a kooky con artist to track down his brother's killer in this ludicrous thriller. Lame contrivances and a script whose idea of hard-boiled is a profusion of gratuitous cuss words render this film utterly charmless. D -DB
