Yes, that Lee Atwater: the Republican National Committee chairman and manager of George Bush's presidential campaign, the man who resigned from the board of Howard University after students at that venerable black institution protested his political attitudes toward minorities. Here he demonstrates his love for black music by tackling classic R&B songs, which then have to be rescued by classic older R&B guest stars, among them B.B. King and Isaac Hayes. Atwater sings in a piping little voice; he plays rudimentary guitar like an amateur pianist picking out tunes on the piano with one finger. At least he's giving his royalties from Red Hot & Blue to charity. D
