Kid Stuff
Most cartoon watchers aren't old enough to see the R-rated rap comedy House Party, but NBC is betting on a sizable under-12 audience for actor/rappers Kid 'n' Play, who will join the network's Saturday-morning lineup in a new series in September. Kid 'n' Play will feature animated and "live" segments, with the duo appearing in both forms each week. CBS is also mining a recent movie hit for a kids' show: Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter will provide the voices for cartoon versions of the characters they played in Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, beginning next fall.

Spotlight on Civil Rights
TV will dip into civil rights history in a pair of upcoming dramas: TNT will mark the 25th anniversary of the Watts race riots with Heat Wave, a drama airing in August with Cicely Tyson, James Earl Jones, and Blair Underwood. And at NBC next season, producers Tom Werner and Marcy Carsey (The Cosby Show) and Henry Hampton (Eyes on the Prize) will film Selma, Lord, Selma, a TV movie about two young girls caught up in the rights movement.
