This was Basie's first orchestra, before Freddie Green and Harry Edison joined, when the blues seemed an infinite text and pieces opened with a full chorus of Basie's spare but jubilant Fats Waller-inspired piano. The music on this reissue is A+, no question, but because of the short playing time and atrocious remastering, you might do better to search out The Best of Count Basie (MCA).
