Arnold Schwarzenegger flexed some serious box-office muscle with the opening of his new sci-fi thriller. Total haul for Total Recall's first weekend: a brawny $25.5 million. In its opening-day survey, CinemaScore, a movie market- research company, found that 61 percent of ticket buyers ''couldn't wait to see the film.'' According to CinemaScore president Ed Mintz, that figure indicates that ''the marketing campaign was tremendous. The trailers, the ads, and the publicity all really worked. The right audience definitely wants to see this picture.'' Not surprisingly, that hard-core audience is primarily male (72 percent). Total Recall is Schwarzenegger's biggest debut yet, far outdistancing runner-up Predator, which took in $12 million during its June 1987 opening weekend.
