The last of the big-budget summer blockbusters blasted into theaters with the explosive opening of Die Hard 2. Taking in $21.7 million in its first weekend, the Bruce Willis-starring sequel ranks as the year's fourth best debut, behind Total Recall, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Dick Tracy. According to industry sources, the picture scored high marks with moviegoers, and the good word of mouth it's getting seems certain to push the airport action flick past the $100 million mark within the next four to five weeks. Dropping down to second place is Days of Thunder, which has brought in more than $40 million in its first two weeks, though it's doubtful the Tom Cruise stock-car drama will finish among the summer's top three movies when the checkered flag is waved come Labor Day.
