From Genesis To Revelation (1969)

EW's GRADE
C

Details Lead Performance: Genesis; Genres: Reissues, Rock

Prior to pioneering theatrical art-rock — prior even to Phil Collins joining the band — Genesis (with Peter Gabriel) debuted in 1969 as an uncertain bunch of English schoolmates temporarily under the misguided influence of junk-pop maestro Jonathan King. Recorded during summer vacation, From Genesis to Revelation is an intriguing prelude to the band's creative emergence: incipient artistry versus an overzealous producer with orchestral ideas. Reissued with four bonus tracks (from two awkward 1968 singles) and junky packaging (amateurish cover, credits that confess to ignorance of easily available recording details), this artifact is for devotees only.
