The producers of a Broadway musical version of The Thin Man (1934) held tryouts Aug. 14, and it was enough to drive anybody arf crazy. More than 100 pooches-seven of them belonging to Charlotte Smith (top)-tried to fetch the part of Asta, the jet-set pet in Nick & Nora. Though all five finalists were wire-haired terriers like the first Asta, hopefuls included beagles, a bulldog, and an actress in a doggie suit.
