Events: A Calendar of Historical Reenactments

Civil War reenactments -- Manassas, Va., San Jose, Calif., and Gettysburg, Pa. are a few places to relive and revive the battlefields

The highlights from among dozens of living-history exhibits scheduled for the coming year:

Nov. 10-11, 1990, Mount Pleasant, S.C.
A reenactment of the Battle of Secessionville staged at Boone Hall Plantation. (Boone Hall was the model for Twelve Oaks in Gone With the Wind.) Contact: Randy Burbage (804-795-3049).

Nov. 10-11, 1990, San Jose, Calif.
A living-history program in which both army camps are set up for viewing. Two tactical demonstrations will be staged each day. Event may be moved to Sacramento. Contact: National Civil War Association (415-969-3766).

June 29-30, 1991, Gettysburg, Pa.
A reenactment of the battle of Gettysburg at a site near the National Park battlefield. Contact: Speros Marinos (717-334-6568).

July 20-21, 1991, Genesee Country Museum, Mumford, N.Y.
A reenactment of the first day of the battle of Gettysburg. Costumed interpreters and other aspects of living history, including the re-creation of military camps. Contact: The Museum (716-538-6822).

Aug. 23-25, 1991, Manassas, Va.
A reenactment of the second battle of Bull Run under the auspices of Prince William County Parks. Contact: Mark Herman (703-335-7060).

Sept. 14-15, 1991, Monmouth Battlefield Park, Freehold, N.J.
A large-scale reenactment of the battle of Antietam with 2,0000 troops. Contact: Tony Daniels (201-793-6397).
