Laurence Fishburne may have shot three ''Matrix'' movies, but he's not done wearing black leather. He's racing toward the shoot of ''Biker Boyz,'' a based-in-fact drama about African-American motorcycle clubs in California, according to the Hollywood Reporter. He'll play Manuel Galloway, the real-life leader of one club whose racing skills have earned him the nom de hog ''King of Cali.'' He heads a group of bikers who are urban professionals by day but road warriors on weekends.
Fox 2000 bought the rights to an article in the weekly newspaper New Times Los Angeles about the clubs two years ago, but after development of the project stalled, DreamWorks picked it up. With the success of ''The Fast and the Furious'' and the likely success of the upcoming ''XXX,'' it seems sensible that ''Boyz'' is on the fast track; it starts shooting on July 31. Writing and directing is Reggie Rock Bythewood (who made the cable movie ''Dancing in September''); coproducing is his wife, ''Love & Basketball'' director Gina Prince Bythewood.
Also joining the club are Orlando Jones (''The Time Machine''), Derek Luke (star of the upcoming ''Antwone Fisher Story,'' Denzel Washington's directing debut), and ''Roswell'' alum Brendan Fehr. Fishburne, who is making his second movie with ''Boyz'' in the title (''Boyz N the Hood'' was first), will next race off to star opposite Clint Eastwood in ''Mystic River.''
