The approach is working. "There are adults out there who want to see movies that aren't all special effects," says Wilson. Adds exec producer Paul Brooks: "It wears its heart on its sleeve. It's a feel-good movie in the most significant sense." Berney credits the amateur who wasn't even worth her agent's time a few years ago. "People connect to Nia," he says. "And they don't necessarily have to be Greek. Everybody sees this movie and says, 'That's my family.'"
