Raffish inmates challenge thuggish prison guards to a soccer grudge match that's really about pride and personal redemption. Sound familiar? It's a British remake of Burt Reynolds' 1974 football romp The Longest Yard. But if this version feels less than rousing, it's largely due to our lack of interest in the underdogs -- a motley yet generally interchangeable bunch who spend most of the movie punching and stomping each other. In the Reynolds role, as the former star player leading the cons, Jones is the anti-Burt: glum, stolid, and plodding through the motions.
