BUMPER CROP
Signs, M. Night Shyamalan's faith-driven frightener, scored the second-best August opening ever--and the best of Mel Gibson's career--while Dana Carvey made himself invisible to critical brickbats, guiding The Master of Disguise to No. 3. But Steven Soderbergh's Full Frontal failed to crack $1 million--the weakest opening for any Julia Roberts film since Woody Allen's 1996 Everyone Says I Love You. Elsewhere, Goldmember dropped a naughty 57 percent and Stuart Little 2 looks like the mouse that bored.
