On Slum Village's 2000 debut, Fantastic, Vol. 2, the only thing going for them were beats by JayDee, a former A Tribe Called Quest associate and master of soulful hip-hop who has since left the group. Trinity finds horn-happy and synth-thick bohemian production supporting vastly improved lyricism from T3, Baatin, and new member Elzhi. Rather than crumble, the Detroit ensemble has persevered, and impressively so.
