Scooby-Doo made our list of best CG characters

CHARACTER STUDY He was beaten to the punch by such B-listers as Mr. Magoo, Dudley Do-Right, and Josie and the Pussycats. But now, after 30-plus years as a Hanna-Barbera 'toon, Scoobert ''Scooby'' Doo -- the canine ghostbuster with a speech impediment -- finally makes it into a live-action movie.

SOUND BYTE Comeback line of the summer: After eating a plastic hot dog, Shaggy says to Scooby: ''What do you care? You drink out of a toilet.'' Scooby's reply: ''So do you.''

WHY WE LOVE HIM Hong Kong Phooey. Deputy Dawg. Huckleberry Hound. Arguably all more cunning canines than Scoob -- but only the dazed and confused Doo has ''special'' Scooby snacks, a stoned cult following, and a CG rendering on the big screen. Voiced not by Don Messick (who did Scooby until his death in 1997) or Scott Innes (who's filled in since), the movie Scooby's voice is supplied by pinch-hitter Neil Fanning, who gets high marks for nailing his ''Rooby''s and ''Raggy''s.
