Shrek made our list of best CG characters
CHARACTER STUDY A fractured fairy tale hero, this not-so-jolly green giant would be just fine if not for the wall he builds between himself and the outside world. But as happy endings go, this one's a doozy: He gets the ogrrrl of his dreams and a new best friend -- albeit a jackass.
SOUND BYTE After Donkey sniffs the foul air with an accusing look, Shrek responds: ''If that was me, you'd be dead.''
WHY WE LOVE HIM Shrek's appeal lies not only in his innovative animation but in the warmly rendered brogue of Mike Myers. Drawing from years of preparation on ''SNL'' (as a soccer hooligan), in ''So I Married an Axe Murderer'' (as his own kilted father), and as Fat Bastard in the Austin Powers series, Myers lends a wickedly funny Scottish intonation and self-deprecating sense of humor to the ornery ogre. Monstrous laughs result.
