Aimee Mann's trademark is lyrical irony and vocal earnestness. On songs like ''This Is How It Goes'' and ''Real Bad News,'' from Lost in Space, she proves her acerbic little heart beats stronger than ever. Musically, though, Mann's put a bit more oomph into her songs, adding a touch of guitar fuzz and a dash of controlled chaos in the rhythm section. Call it fine-tuning, and call her the most ambitious busker working the charts.
