Song for You (2002)

EW's GRADE
B

Details Release Date: Aug 13, 2002; Lead Performance: Kenny Rankin

''Easy does it'' remains the mantra for Rankin, whose understated voice floats over mostly standards given cred by guests like saxist Chris Potter, guitarist Russell Malone, and trumpeter Roy Hargrove. Rankin goes pop with Leon Russell's title cut, a mellow ''Spanish Harlem,'' and the Beatles' ''I've Just Seen a Face.'' But the main attractions are the American beauties -- ''Love Walked In,'' ''The Way You Look Tonight'' -- done up with casual elegance.
