As production on the likely final season of ''Friends'' gets under way, the cast wonders what's next for their characters. ''I hope Chandler throws away all his sweater vests,'' says Matthew Perry. The purge could help make room for the baby that Courteney Cox Arquette says Monica and Chandler will try to conceive despite fertility issues. Meanwhile, she has another gimmick in mind: ''Since it's the last year... I wish we'd all switch characters just for a little while. It would be fun to be Phoebe. I'm really not that light and airy myself.''
Jennifer Aniston says she'd channel Chandler: ''He's so cute and goofy and gets to say all those outrageous lines.'' Cox Arquette says the cast often jokes about what'll happen after the series ends, suggesting a ''Very Friends Christmas Reunion'' if their separate movie careers stall. But she apparently didn't bounce the idea off of ''Good Girl'' Aniston, who concludes: ''Good God, no!''
